Target & Nilan Johnson Lewis Recognized as Inaugural “ACC Value Champions”

Today, Nilan Johnson Lewis, along with its client partner Target, were recognized as 2012 “ACC Value Champions” by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) for their collaboration in making a difference for their organizations through creativity and value-based legal management skills.

“These value-based initiatives have fostered a productive and winning partnership between Nilan Johnson Lewis and Target and have generated outstanding results for both Target and our firm,” noted Nilan Johnson Lewis Shareholder Joseph Schmitt. “For example,” Schmitt added, “our monthly retainer for advisory matters allows and encourages Target to obtain preventative advice, and our phased billing arrangement for single-plaintiff employment litigation has allowed us to achieve terrific results at a predictable cost.”

ACC developed the program this year after witnessing important case studies that exemplify how client expectations – not hourly-based legal spend – drive the legal services equation. This new program honors five law departments and seven law department/law firm collaborations that delivered substantial value to their client organizations by achieving better legal outcomes, cutting spending and improving predictability.
