First-Year Associate Wins Big in Lemon Law Trial
Not many associates can tell their peers that they’ve been in court unaccompanied AND managed to win their first trial. That honor belongs to 27 year-old Ben Johnson, who joined NJL after graduating from Hamline University School of Law in 2010.
In the span of just one year, Johnson took on the Lemon Law case of Block vs. Ford Motor Co. and won the proceedings. He served as the sole trial counsel for the firm’s longtime client and coordinated all aspects of the trial from start to finish. “Today’s cases rarely go to trial, so this was a tremendous opportunity for someone at my level to gain valuable trial experience” said Johnson. He successfully argued his case in front of a seven-person jury and against two of Minnesota’s most experienced lemon law attorneys.
Johnson’s win adds to the string of impressive victories obtained by NJL lawyers in the past year. In 2011, NJL posted 11 defense verdicts and earlier this year, the firm scored three major trial victories in a 10-day trial period.
