Nilan Johnson Lewis Expands Nonprofit Practice with Hire of Ann Novacheck
MINNEAPOLIS (June 24, 2019) – Nilan Johnson Lewis announces that effective immediately, Ann Novacheck has joined the law firm, expanding its nonprofit and foundation practice as a shareholder within the Corporate & Transactional Services group. Novacheck has over 30 years of experience advising established and emerging nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, including private foundations, operating foundations, public charities, trade associations, and health care providers.

Novacheck advises nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations on a wide range of matters, including governance and management issues, executive compensation, federal and state tax and corporate law compliance, fiduciary duty responsibilities and conflicts of interest, the investment and management of institutional funds, membership issues, the development of grant programs, and managing donor relations. She represents organizations through their entire life cycle, from formation through transitions such as joint ventures, mergers, and dissolutions. Novacheck has previously worked with firms in Chicago and Minneapolis and has successfully defended charitable organizations through investigations by the Internal Revenue Service, various state revenue departments and state attorneys general.
Novacheck received her J.D. and undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also received her Master of Laws in Taxation from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. Outside of the firm, Novacheck is a member of Minnesota Women Lawyers and provides pro bono legal services to children through the Children’s Law Center. She also was a conference planner for the 2019 Nonprofit Law Conference. Novacheck is admitted to the bar in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
