Minnesota-based national law firm Nilan Johnson Lewis (NJL) welcomes Eric Ryu, who will practice in the firm’s Corporate Immigration Group. Eric will add to the team’s deep bench enabling diverse businesses worldwide with their corporate immigration needs. Eric will assist regional employers as well as large international companies with the complexities of retaining a foreign workforce – through securing temporary work statuses, waivers, permanent residency, I-9 issues, compliance issues, legislative monitoring, training, and more.

Eric comes to the firm with a strong background in immigration law and immigrant rights. Recently obtaining a Master of Human Rights degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, Eric served as an intern for the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea in Washington, D.C. He also worked as an immigration lawyer in San Francisco, representing asylum seekers and adjustment of status cases before the courts and USCIS Asylum Office. He served as a Robina Post-Graduate Fellow for The Advocates for Human Rights in Minneapolis.

In addition to his master’s degree, Eric has a B.A. from the University of Texas, graduating magna cum laude in Government and Sociology. He is also a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as lead managing editor for the Minnesota Journal of International Law and Student Director for the Immigration and Human Rights Clinic.
