Maria Brekke Receives NJL’s Annual Impact Award
Nilan Johnson Lewis is proud to announce that attorney Maria Brekke, a member of the firm’s Business Litigation practice group, has received the 2025 Impact Award.
NJL’s Impact Committee formed to consolidate the firm’s diverse array of pro bono service and charitable contributions. Each year, the committee honors an individual from the firm for their outstanding commitment to pro bono work, community service, and charitable engagement. The recipient also chooses an organization to receive a $5,000 charitable donation from the firm.
Maria has been a tireless volunteer for cases with the Advocates for Human Rights, as she assists individuals seeking asylum through each step of the legal process. She has chosen the Advocates as her organization to receive the $5,000 donation.
A graduate of University of Minnesota Law School, Maria has been actively involved in pro bono efforts across the community. In addition to partnering with the Advocates for Human Rights, she has served on the Community Board for St. Francis Regional Medical Center and University of Minnesota Law School’s G.O.L.D. Council.
