Nilan Johnson Lewis Office Earns LEED Certification

Just over a year after relocating to its new office in One Financial Plaza, Nilan Johnson Lewis has become LEED certified, earning third-party recognition for its attainment of the “highest green building and neighborhood performance measures,” by the Green Building Certification Institute.  Kim Ess, Chief Operating Officer for Nilan Johnson Lewis, said: “The space is such a great success story; it’s an example of our responsibility to the environment, to our clients and employees.”

Tara Sturm, an ethical business practice and social action freelance writer, featured the Nilan Johnson Lewis office as a “Fresh Perspective on Sustainable Office Space” and an example of a workplace that incorporates “sustainable integrity” while maintaining visual beauty. The full article discusses the firm’s big picture vision, coupling efficient systems and logical working spaces. Sara Rothholz Weiner, project architect at the Cuningham Group, said, “It was a project goal to express the integrity of the materials, which is analogous to this law firm’s people, legacy, and practice…”

Nilan Johnson Lewis’ 77,000 square foot downtown Minneapolis office build-out incorporated Forest Stewardship Council-certified renewable walnut and efficient products such as low-flow faucets and occupancy sensors. The office also emphasized the use of natural daylight to, in part, reduce energy use as well as low or no VOC paints and finishes to improve air quality.
