Nilan Johnson Lewis Once Again Recognized Among Top Law Firms for Female Attorneys by Law360
While close to 50 percent of law school graduates are female, women make up less than 34 percent of all U.S. attorneys and less than 22 percent of law firm partners. According to Law360’s recently published 2016 Glass Ceiling Report, these figures have not moved in the past three years. Law360 collects and analyzes data from hundreds of law firms and ranks them based on both their female attorney and female partner headcounts. Nilan Johnson Lewis is proud to rank near the top on both of the Glass Ceiling Report lists: ninth on the list for best law firms for female attorneys, and 10th on the list of the best law firms for female partners. This is the second consecutive year in which Nilan Johnson Lewis has ranked highly on both lists.
At the time of this year’s survey, 45 percent of NJL’s attorneys were women, as were 41 percent of shareholders. In addition, women comprise 60 percent of the firm’s board of directors, and three of the firm’s five practice groups are chaired by women.
This month, Nilan Johnson Lewis was also named the 2016 Leadership Award recipient by Minnesota Women Lawyers. It marked the third time that the firm received the Leadership Award, the most times of any legal employer in the award’s 23-year history.

About the Law360 Top 100 Firms for Female Attorneys
The top law firms ranking is based on four factors as of Dec. 31, 2015: 1) the percentage of partners, both equity and non-equity, who are women; 2) the percentage of non-partners and attorneys who are women; 3) the split between the firm’s female partner percentage and female non-partner percentage; and 4) the number of female attorneys at the firm. More than 300 firms were surveyed for the ranking.
