The Stronger Push for Incentives
With CMS relaxing its cap on member benefits, what new initiatives might health plans roll out and how far will they push the envelope to incent members towards specific kinds of care services? Similarly, recent opinions from the OIG seem to demonstrate that the push to cut costs and improve quality is resulting in providers more aggressively exercising their influence with incentive offerings. The pendulum seems to be swinging away from offering individual choice and towards putting more power in the hands of providers and plans to funnel enrollment in ways they feel are strategic. What may result is a new marketplace of incentives that influences the types of services members receive, and where they receive them.
