Air Passengers Traveling to the United States are No Longer Required to Show Negative COVID Test Results
In an order dated June 10, 2022, the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) announced that it will rescind its earlier order that required all air passengers two and older traveling to the United States from abroad to present a negative COVID-19 test result no more than one day before departure (or documentation of recovery from COVID within 90 days).
The CDC indicated that it is rescinding the prior order because of changes in circumstances, including availability of vaccines and therapeutics, although it can reinstate prevention measures such as testing requirements if needed. The rescission went into effect for all aircraft departing from a foreign country to the United States on or after Sunday, June 12, 2022.
This means that, effective June 12, 2022, air passengers are no longer required to show a negative COVID-19 test (or documentation of recovery from COVID-19) before boarding a flight to the United States from a foreign country, regardless of citizenship.
Keep in mind that the rescinded order only relates to COVID-19 testing measures for international airline travel to the United States. It does not change vaccine measures in place.
For example, nonimmigrant air travelers to the United States (e.g., H, L, and O nonimmigrants) are still required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States from a foreign country.
