Retooling Provider Payment Through Population Healthcare Management

Commercial health plans are beginning to explore models outside of the normal fee-for-service approach, paying providers based on quality outcomes and demonstrated behavior changes. This change requires increased amount of trust and partnership between health plans and health providers as they work out cost of care agreements measuring the health and cost savings of their population and perhaps lean on services and strategies that promote long-term health but may not reimburse as well or which may not result in immediate cost savings.
